Today’s word is HARVEST
It is spelled…H-A-R-V-E-S-T
According to the Cambridge Dictionary,
Harvest is “the time of year when crops are cut and collected from the fields,
or the activity of cutting and collecting them,”
Harvest is a verb, adjective, and a noun that also refers to the crops that are cut and collected.
It comes from Middle English hervest, from Old English hærfest; akin to Latin carpere to pluck, gather,
In the Online Etymology Dictionary,
As an adjective, harvest was a festive celebration of the bringing home the last of the harvest (or the end of the traditional growing season); harvest moon appeared in 1704 and is a full moon within a fortnight of the autumnal equinox.”
To add, climates vary around the world, and thanks to vertical indoor farming seasons of harvest may occur at different times of the year, or even, year-round.
Depending on the size of the farm, the manner of harvest can be manual labor, or mechanized.
You can also find this word in the Sonoma West Times & News. Rollie Atkinson writes,
“Sonoma County’s 2020 winegrape harvest was already predicted to be an extra challenge from the added safety requirements for the COVID-19 pandemic, the uncertain economy and the recent years of declining tonnage prices due to a market glut. “
In a Sacramento Bee video, John Hannon narrates, “An expansive look at the honeydew melon harvest of Bart Fisher at River Garden Farms in Knights Landing, Yolo County, near Sacramento CA.”
